Toy Safety in Malaysia: Key Regulations and How ToySpark Ensures Compliance

Toy safety is paramount for protecting children, and Malaysia has stringent regulations to ensure that toys are safe. The Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri (KPDN) oversees these regulations. At ToySpark, we are dedicated to offering toys that meet these safety standards. Additionally, we also sell baby strollers, which comply with relevant safety regulations.

KPDN Regulations for Toy Safety

The KPDN has implemented several important regulations to enhance toy safety:

  • Consumer Protection (Certificate of Conformance and Conformity Mark of Safety Standards) Regulations 2010: Requires that toys obtain a Certificate of Conformance to verify they meet established safety standards before being sold.
  • Consumer Protection (Safety Standards for Toys) Regulations 2009 : Establishes safety standards for toys, covering aspects such as design, materials, and manufacturing practices.
  • Consumer Protection (Safety Standards for Toys) (Amendment) Regulations 2010 : Updates and adds to the safety requirements to further strengthen toy safety.

These regulations, effective from 1 August 2010, are designed to ensure that toys in the Malaysian market are safe, addressing both normal use and foreseeable misuse.

The MC Sticker

The MC (Malaysian Certification) sticker from SIRIM Berhad is a key part of compliance:

  • Certification: The MC sticker signifies that a toy has been tested and certified to meet Malaysian safety standards, including those required by KPDN regulations.
  • Consumer Confidence: It provides assurance to parents that the toy has passed rigorous safety evaluations.
  • Identification: The MC sticker is typically found on the toy’s packaging or the product itself, featuring the SIRIM logo and certification number.
  • Verification: Consumers can verify the certification by checking the SIRIM Berhad website or contacting their customer service.

Note: While not all toys may carry the MC sticker, it remains an important indicator of safety compliance. ToySpark ensures that all products we offer are sourced from reputable manufacturers who comply with the necessary safety regulations.
